Can antioxidants really extend our lives? Yes, antioxidants come to the rescue. Antiaging is one of the major benefits of antioxidants because oxidation will eventually age you. Oxidation is explained in many places on my site, but the main example are the bananas on my home page. Just picture the bananas not in the green bags turning brown faster than the ones in the green bags. The green bags are like the antioxidants in our body protecting us from premature aging. Antioxidants are substances such as vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and polyphenols that help protect cells in your body. They are nature’s way of fighting off potentially dangerous molecules in the bloodstream of your body. Such molecules come in the form of synthetic chemicals such as pesticides, plastics, and chlorine byproducts and are called
free radicals.
Scientists consider free radicals to be the number one contributing factor to aging. By destroying cells and mutating DNA, they cause cumulative damage leading to numerous degenerative diseases and premature aging. Of course, some people will age faster than others depending on their choice of lifestyle.
The good news is that a sensible antioxidant antiaging plan will considerably slow down that aging process.
